Former Big Lots Company Wins Court Nod for Liquidation Request

The company formerly known as Big Lots Inc. converted its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case to liquidation after closing a sale earlier this year.

Judge J. Kate Stickles of the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware approved the former discount retailer’s request Monday, despite earlier objections from the Department of Justice’s bankruptcy monitor.

The US Trustee opposed the company’s Oct. 24 petition, questioning whether it had any assets that a Chapter 7 trustee could use to cover administrative costs for the conversion. The parties later settled language ahead of a Nov. 4 hearing.
