Ex-NYC Lawyer Fails to Extinguish IRS Claim in Bankruptcy Appeal

A New York federal judge upheld a bankruptcy court decision validating the Internal Revenue Service’s $395,206 claim in the bankruptcy of collapsed real estate law firm Kossoff PLLC.

Judge Katherine Polk Failla of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected an appeal by the firm’s former principal that aimed to wipe out tax liabilities. Her ruling came in a Jan. 5 opinion.

The judge concluded that the IRS holds a valid unsecured claim for tax liabilities dating back to 2015.

The firm entered bankruptcy in 2021, when certain creditors filed an involuntary Chapter 7 petition. ...
