1145 Holdings LLC, a media company founded by former NBA player Ulysses Lee “Junior” Bridgeman, won the auction to buy the Ebony trademark’s use for fashion, cosmetics and personal care with a $1 million bid, following its acquisition of the iconic publication and Jet magazine out of bankruptcy.
The assets include certain rights, licensing and interest in trademarks, names, logos and domain names for both “Ebony” and “Ebone,” according to a notice filed Friday by the Chapter 7 trustee in the bankruptcy of J Publication Co., the founder of the two leading magazines focusing on African-American interests.
