The owner of the building that houses the Prohibition-era off-Broadway venue Theater 80 St. Marks, as well as the William Barnacle Tavern and Museum of the American Gangster, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday.
- 78-80 St. Mark’s Place LLC filed for Chapter 11 in Manhattan, listing assets of $15 million and liabilities of $8 million, according to the bankruptcy petition
- The East Village building was being marketed for foreclosure sale by Cushman & Wakefield
- Lawrence Otway, the owner of the building, also sought Chapter 11 protection in a separate filing
