Doctors’ Bid to Halt St. Christopher’s Hospital Sale Denied

A planned $50 million sale of Philadelphia’s St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children will proceed after a bankruptcy court rejected doctors’ complaints about losing insurance coverage.

The Dec. 11 ruling comes less than a week after a group of the hospital’s former residents, fellows, medical staff filed an emergency motion to ask the court to reconsider the sale or compel the buyer or St. Christopher’s owner to provide them with tail coverage. The insurance product allows physicians to extend malpractice coverage after an insurance policy has expired.
