Dish Gets $50 Million Grant From US to Develop Open Networks

Dish Network Corp. received a $50 million grant from the Biden administration to help develop open mobile networks — an effort to make wireless systems more robust by using industry standards and inviting in a wider variety of suppliers.

The money from a $1.5 billion open-networks program will help fund lab and field testing by Dish and its partners, including Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. The idea is to reduce reliance on a handful of dominant equipment vendors, including Nokia Oyj and Ericsson AB.
