Dean Foods Wins U.S. Antitrust Approval for Sale to Dairy Co-Op

Bankrupt Dean Foods Co. has received antitrust approval for its sale to Dairy Farmers of America, according to a settlement filed in Federal Court in Chicago.

  • The U.S. Department of Justice approved the deal after Dean and Dairy Farmers of America agreed to sell certain assets to resolve concerns the tie-up would harm competition, according to a court filing
  • Some creditors of Dean and had proposed a plan to merge with also-bankrupt Borden Dairy Co. in case the Dairy Farmers of America deal fell through
