Tonopah Solar Energy LLC has filed for bankruptcy for the second time since 2020, with plans to sell its unique Nevada-based Crescent Dunes solar energy project.
The company, which operates the first utility-scale thermal concentrated solar power plant in the US in the desert between Las Vegas and Reno, filed for Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on Wednesday.
It owes about $173 million to lender Crescent Dunes Finance Inc., according to court papers. The bankruptcy comes amid continued distress in the renewable and solar energy world.
