Court Says Firing of Puerto Rico Oversight Members Was Unlawful

The Trump administration overstepped its authority when it fired members of Puerto Rico’s financial watchdog in August, the US District Court of Puerto Rico ruled.

The White House fired six of the seven members of the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico, or FOMB, in August. Three of them — Arthur Gonzalez, Andrew Biggs and Betty Rosa — sued to be reinstated.

In a decision announced Friday, US District Judge Maria Antongiorgi-Jordan said the White House had fired those members without providing cause.
