Court Pauses MetLife’s Lawsuit Against Systemic Risk Council

A federal appeals court halted for 60 days litigation between MetLife Inc. and the Financial Stability Oversight Council over the regulators’ decision to designate the insurer a “systemically important financial institution” (MetLife, Inc. v. Financial Stability Oversight Council, D.C. Cir., 16-5086, 5/12/17).

A trial judge struck down MetLife’s SIFI designation, which was appealed by the Obama administration to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and argued in October.
