Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) signed legislation July 13 that will bar certain employers from using credit scores in making hiring or employment decisions beginning in October.
Under the legislation, P.A. 11-223, employers and their agents, representatives, or designees are prohibited from requiring an employee or prospective employee to consent to a request for a credit report as a condition of employment.
The prohibition does not apply when the employer is a financial institution, the report is required by law, or the employer “reasonably” believes the employee committed a violation of the law related to his or her job. ...
