Cinemex Makes $6 Million Play for Bankrupt iPic Theater Chain

The owner of CMX Cinemas dine-in movie theater chain filed notice of a $6 million auction floor price bid to buy competitor iPic Theaters LLC out of bankruptcy, challenging a $5 million offer from Star Grill Cinema Inc.

CMX Holdings USA Inc. filed its “competing stalking horse” purchase agreement Wednesday with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, just a day after iPic sought approval to enter into a protected deal with Star Grill Cinema, which also operates a dine-in movie theater chain.
