Capital One N.A. was not acting as a debt collector within the meaning of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act when it attempted to collect a debt it originated, according to an Aug. 15 decision by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama (Champion v. Global Credit Card Services LLC, N.D. Ala., 2:12-cv-01966-IPJ, 8/15/12).
Vickie Champion brought suit against Capital One, Global Credit Card Services, LLC and NCO Financial Systems Inc. She alleged violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA),
