The Diocese of Camden, N.J., announced a $180 million bankruptcy settlement with its insurers and more than 300 clergy abuse survivors, which lawyers say is more than six times the amount that was originally proposed in 2021 by the Catholic diocese.
The renewed settlement includes insurance companies—such as units of Chubb Ltd., Lloyd’s of London, and Allianz SE—that previously held out on an $87.5 million deal that was approved in March 2024 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, a committee representing the sexual abuse survivors said in a Tuesday press release.
