Unions representing hundreds of healthcare workers employed by the San Benito Health Care District in California said the public hospital operator lacks sufficient distress to qualify for municipal bankruptcy relief.
The district, which operates the 25-bed Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and a number of other rural health care facilities across San Benito County, filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy in May, saying it needs to reorganize and address persistent deficiencies of operating cash.
