Boy Scouts Trust Approved to Continue Suing Insurers in Texas

The Boy Scouts of America abuse settlement trust defeated efforts to move or dismiss its litigation in Texas federal court against 83 insurance companies that declined to settle potential liabilities during the youth organization’s bankruptcy case.

The US District Court for the Northern District of Texas is a suitable forum for the trustee’s pursuit of funds from non-settling Boy Scouts insurers, Judge Karen Gren Scholer said in a ruling Monday. She rejected calls to abstain from hearing the suit or move it to Illinois state court where the nonprofit sued for policy coverage nine years ago.
