The Boy Scouts of America is nearing a settlement with sexual abuse claimants that could accelerate the end to its nine-figure bankruptcy saga, according to people familiar with the matter.

Mediated discussions between the Boy Scouts and attorneys representing sexual abuse claimants have led to substantial progress over the last few weeks, they said.

A deal could be announced shortly, but could also fall apart, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the talks ongoing between the nonprofit organization and representatives for victim claimants.
