Boy Scouts’ Insurers Seek Probe Into Abuse Claim ‘Explosion’

The Boy Scouts of America’s liability insurers asked to investigate the “staggering explosion” of sexual abuse claims against the organization since its bankruptcy filing nearly a year ago.

The Boy Scouts is facing more than 95,000 claims of sexual abuse, many of which are “deficient on their face” and could impede the consensual creation of a bankruptcy trust to compensate victims, affiliates of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. and Chubb Ltd. told the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Tens of thousands of claims could be invalid, they said in a Jan. 22 filing.
