Blackjewel Sues Ex-CEO Over ‘Self-dealing’ Transaction Schemes

Blackjewel LLC sued its former president and CEO Jeffrey Hoops, alleging he engineered several deals to enrich his own family at the expense of the bankrupt coal mining company and its creditors.

Hoops caused Blackjewel to engage in “numerous improper, unfair, and unreasonable transactions” with entities ultimately owned by him and a Hoops family trust before the company filed for Chapter 11 last year, according to a complaint filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
