Bankruptcy Judge Open to Increasing Alex Jones’ Infowars Salary

A bankruptcy judge indicated that he’s willing to boost Alex Jones’ salary, saying the conservative firebrand’s job is the lifeblood of his Infowars business.

Jones is currently bringing in a $20,000 biweekly salary—less than half of what he was making before his business’ bankruptcy. Judge Christopher Lopez of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas said at a Monday hearing that he needs more information before ruling on the request and pushed the decision to January.

The dispute over Jones’ salary has become more salient since the conspiratorial host filed his own personal bankruptcy case earlier this month. His bankruptcy came in the face of recent Texas and Connecticut court rulings awarding families of slain Sandy Hook family victims more than $1 billion for lies he told about the shooting being a hoax.

Lopez noted that Jones’ role at the Infowars bankrupt parent company, Free Speech Systems LLC, is important to keeping revenue flowing. Those funds would potentially be used to pay back creditors under a business bankruptcy plan.

“Revenue is generated through the sale of product, and he’s the guy who can sell it,” Lopez said.

The request was met with objections from attorneys for the Department of Justice’s bankruptcy watchdog, the US Trustee, and attorneys for Sandy Hook victim families.

Jones’ salary is important for him to be able to keep his personal assets, such as his home, and pay creditors, said Vickie L. Driver of Crowe & Dunlevy, Jones’ personal bankruptcy attorney.

“Right now, Mr. Jones can and may be forced to take third-party employment if he cannot make what he needs to survive,” Driver said.

Jones has been receiving less than half of his previous $1.3 million Infowars salary since parent company Free Speech Systems filed for Chapter 11 protection in July.

The case is Free Speech Systems LLC, Bankr. S.D. Tex., No. 22-60043, hearing 12/19/22.
