Epiq Blames ‘Human Error’ in Disclosing Diocese Survivor Names (1)

Epiq Corporate Restructuring acknowledged that “human error” caused the legal services firm to divulge the personal information of more than 100 sex abuse survivors who are claimants in a Connecticut-based Catholic diocese’s bankruptcy.

Survivors, who are seeking $42 million in damages in a suit against Epiq, say the firm subjected them to additional trauma and directly violated a court order that their information be kept private.

Epiq’s internal investigation “appears to show that the inadvertent disclosure was largely attributed to human error” in the quality control process, Deirdre O’Connor, a managing director at the firm, said during a court hearing ...
