A ransomware attack on global consulting firm Berkeley Research Group LLC’s systems infiltrated and stole data from several bankrupt Catholic groups from across the country.
The firm said it agreed to pay a settlement to the ransomware actor in exchange for a promise to delete and not leak the stolen data, according to filings Tuesday in at least eight Catholic diocese Chapter 11 cases. Berkeley served as the financial adviser for the unsecured creditor committees in those bankruptcies.
