Avon Insurers Urge Court to Reject Talc Claims in Bankruptcy

A group of insurers for beauty brand Avon Products Inc. called on a bankruptcy court to reject talc claims in the company’s bankruptcy, saying claims that haven’t yet been filed aren’t automatically considered valid.

The insurers, which include Wellfleet New York Insurance Co. and the London market insurer Lloyd’s, said the court should block talc claims “in their entirety.” The group filed the objection Wednesday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The insurers said that because procedures governing Avon’s proposed liquidation trust don’t require talc claimants to file proofs of claims, they wouldn’t meet an evidentiary burden. ...
