ArcelorMittal to Shut Ontario Wire Mill in Canada Restructuring

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal SA is closing its wire drawing mill in Ontario, affecting 153 employees when Canada’s steel industry is grappling with the impacts of US tariffs on the metal.

ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada announced the restructuring in a Wednesday statement, adding that wire drawing activities will be entirely concentrated at a Montreal site. The permanent shutdown of production at its wire drawing mill in Hamilton, Ontario will happen “in the coming weeks,” the company said.
