23andMe Offers $3.25 Million Deal for Canadian Data Breach Class

DNA testing firm 23andMe agreed to pay $3.25 million to settle claims from Canadian customers whose data was exposed in a 2023 breach.

The company, now called Chrome Holding Co., would distribute the funds—about CA$4.49 million—through a settlement fund, according to filings Thursday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The deal is subject to court approval.

Customers eligible for the payout must have incurred costs as a result of the breach between October 2023 and March 2024. The breach affected about 7 million customers.
