23andMe Bankruptcy Judge to Rule Soon on Genetic Data Asset Sale

A bankruptcy judge said he’ll rule as quickly as possible on 23andMe’s proposed sale of its assets, including the genetic data of around 13 million people, to its co-founder and a California research institute.

Judge Brian C. Walsh of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri heard arguments over the sale well into Friday evening. Co-founder Anne Wojcicki and the nonprofit TTAM Research Institute won an auction earlier this month with a bid of nearly $305 million.
