Vought Cuts Quarterly CFPB Funding Request by Almost Half

The acting head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is requesting $75.8 million in quarterly funding, a little more than half of what the Trump administration asked for during the previous quarter as it seeks to shrink the agency.

Acting Director Russell Vought requested the funds for the CFPB to continue operating through the third quarter of fiscal year 2026. The previous quarter, he’d asked for $145 million after a judge in December halted efforts to defund the agency and ordered the administration to seek money from the Federal Reserve.
