Vaping Crisis Latest Hurdle for Pot Banking Bill

The recent wave of vaping-related deaths could slow progress of legislation designed to make it easier for marijuana-related businesses to access banking services, a key lawmaker said.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) on Oct. 17 told reporters that vaping-related illnesses that have so far claimed the lives of 33 people around the country are an example of the sort of health and safety concerns that he wants to address. Crapo’s committee is working on legislation that would let banks and credit unions to serve marijuana-related businesses in states where the drug is legal.
