US Releases Guidance on Complying with Tornado Cash Sanctions

The Treasury Department laid out guidelines for how Americans should comply with sanctions that the US recently slapped on Tornado Cash, a popular cryptocurrency service that lets users to mask their transactions.

Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control last month said Tornado Cash had been used to launder more than $7 billion worth of digital coins since its creation in 2019. The agency sanctioned crypto wallets associated with Tornado Cash, as well as related code known as smart contracts.
