Economists say deportations from the US could lead to billions of lost remittances in coming years. But for now, the opposite is happening.

In President Donald Trump’s second term, immigrants are wiring home far more money. Remittances sent to many parts of Latin America are seeing double-digit increases, and the region is on track to receive $161 billion in transfers from the US by year’s end — up more than 8% from 2024’s total.
