The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau asked the Federal Reserve for $145 million to keep the federal consumer finance watchdog afloat for the next three months.
The CFPB’s request, filed Friday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, came after Judge Amy Berman Jackson last month determined it was necessary to prevent the Trump administration from shuttering the agency.
In his letter to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, acting CFPB Director Russell Vought said he disagreed with Jackson’s order but determined the money was necessary for the agency to function during the second quarter of fiscal 2026.
