The Trump administration has put the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in “wind-down mode” despite its assurances that the agency will continue to exist, current and former CFPB officials said in court filings disputing the agency’s official statements.
The CFPB in a Feb. 24 brief in the US District Court for the District of Columbia said the Trump administration intends to have a functioning agency, even though acting Director Russell Vought has moved to halt virtually all of the CFPB’s operations and put nearly all of its staff on administrative leave.
