A Tennessee-based payday lender and check casher will pay a total of $232,000 for improperly threatening litigation and making other threats over old debts as well as other violations, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said Oct. 24.
Cash Express LLC allegedly told customers with outstanding debt that the company intended to sue them, even in instances when the debt was older than state laws allowed for lawsuits to be filed. Cash Express rarely, if ever, filed those lawsuits, the CFPB said.
