StanChart Says Sanctions Case Rejected by Department of Justice

The US Department of Justice has rejected claims by two whistleblowers that it failed to properly investigate allegations of sanctions violations by Standard Chartered Plc, the bank said.

The British lender said in a statement late on Thursday it was “pleased and unsurprised” by the favorable outcome, citing a Department of Justice filing. It said the filing reaffirms that “the claims underlying this case are false.”

The DOJ filing said that the appeal court should uphold the earlier judgment and that the fraud allegation against the government was “entirely unfounded,” according to the Times.
