Senate Democrats Ask IRS Why It Failed to Audit Rich Taxpayers

Twelve Senate Democrats ask the Internal Revenue Service to explain why it has failed to audit hundreds of thousands of high-income individuals who haven’t paid their taxes.

  • The request, led by Senate Finance Committee ranking member Ron Wyden, asks IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig to respond to a watchdog report that said IRS has failed to collect $47.5 billion from high-income people
  • “We have raised concerns with you in the past about declining audit rates on high income individuals and corporations,” the letter says
