Pulte Faces Federal Watchdog’s Probe After His Fraud Accusations

A government watchdog is investigating whether Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte abused his position to level allegations of mortgage fraud at President Donald Trump’s perceived political opponents.

The Government Accountability Office opened the probe after Senate Democrats last month requested the legislative watchdog look into the matter. Senator Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, and Senator Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, led six colleagues in asking Comptroller General Gene Dodaro to “promptly” investigate in a Nov. 17 letter.
