Online lender Enova International Inc. agreed to pay $3.2 million to settle Consumer Financial Protection Bureau claims that it improperly deducted money from consumers’ bank accounts without permission and other violations.
Chicago-based Enova’s actions resulted in consumers having their accounts drained without permission and, in some instances not getting extensions to repay existing loans they expected, the CFPB said in a consent order released Jan. 25. The bureau ordered Enova to pay a $3.2 million civil penalty, but determined that it did not have to pay restitution to consumers.
