New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) is pushing to revamp the state’s consumer financial protection law following the Trump administration’s efforts to neuter the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
James on Thursday announced the Fostering Affordability and Integrity through Reasonable, or FAIR, Business Practices Act. The bill would beef up New York’s existing consumer protection law by allowing the state’s attorney general and private plaintiffs to pursue companies engaged in unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts and practices, matching the CFPB’s existing powers.
