New York debt collection law firm Forster & Garbus LLP agreed to tighten its documentation requirements before filing lawsuits as part of a settlement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The Wednesday settlement, which will also see the Commack, New York-based firm pay a $100,000 fine, brings to a close a lawsuit the CFPB filed in 2019 alleging that Forster & Garbus filed thousands of debt collection lawsuits without attorneys reviewing documents supporting debts at issue in litigation.
