Mortgage Refinance Applications Increase; Purchase Index Marks Third Week of Gains

Mortgage demand picked up in the latest week, with gains in both refinancings and purchases, the Mortgage Bankers Association said Nov. 10.

The MBA’s Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, rose 5.8 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in the week ended Nov. 5.

The refinance index rose 6 percent and the refinance share of total mortgage applications rose to 81.7 percent from 81.3 percent the previous week, ended Oct. 29.

The purchase index rose 5.5 percent, marking the third consecutive week that purchases have increased.
