The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and a law firm agreed to a $12 million settlement that brings to a close a decade-old case over allegations the firm charged millions of dollars in illegal advance fees to distressed homeowners who never received legal services.
The US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit dismissed the CFPB’s case against Consumer First Legal Group LLC and four attorneys in an unsigned Feb. 7 order, the CFPB announced.
