Labor Board, Consumer Finance Watchdog Team Up on Training Debt

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the National Labor Relations Board will work together to protect workers from training-related debt and unnecessary surveillance by their employers.

The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday that will allow them to share information on the sale of workers’ personal data and employer-driven debt, including training repayment agreements where companies force workers to cover the costs of job training. The CFPB and NLRB said in their joint statement that they plan to focus on potential misconduct in the gig economy.
