Judge Tosses Most CFPB Claims Against Mortgage Servicer Ocwen

The CFPB must slim down claims that mortgage servicer Ocwen Financial Corp. violated consumer protection laws after a Florida federal judge said most of the allegations were covered by an earlier settlement.

Mortgage servicing violations that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau brought in a April 2017 lawsuit against Ocwen duplicated those covered in a $2 billion settlement that won court approval in February 2014, Judge Kenneth Marra of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida said Thursday.
