A federal judge in Washington has the power to block the Trump administration from shuttering the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in a dispute over the agency’s funding, the union representing CFPB employees said.
Acting CFPB Director Russell Vought says a Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel interpretation of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, which created the bureau, bars him from seeking additional funding from the Federal Reserve when the central bank isn’t profitable.
