France’s CNIL data protection watchdog fines American Express €1.5 million for failing to respect rules relating to cookies, according to statement.
- Fine follows checks carried out by regulator in January 2023
- CNIL says American Express deposited cookies without user consent and despite user refusal, says it continued to read cookies despite user consent withdrawal
- American Express Carte France says in emailed statement that it’s fully committed to respecting norms and practices relating to data protection
- Says it’s already put in place necessary measures to fully respond to CNIL’s findings
