Freedom Mortgage Charged With ‘Repeat Offender’ Data Mistakes

Freedom Mortgage Corp. submitted incorrect mortgage borrower data to federal regulators despite being ordered to improve its collection and submission policies, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said.

The lender’s data filing on mortgages issued in 2020 was riddled with mistakes, according to a complaint the CFPB filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The federal consumer finance watchdog had previously entered into a settlement with Boca Raton, Fla.-based Freedom in 2019 over similar alleged violations of the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.

Freedom didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
