Former Acting FHFA Chief DeMarco To Leave Housing Agency in April

Edward DeMarco, the former acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, announced that he will leave the agency at the end of April.

DeMarco led the agency that oversees government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for more than four years. He was sometimes at odds with the White House and congressional Democrats, most notably over his opposition to writing down principal on troubled mortgages backed by the GSEs.

DeMarco was replaced in January by Mel Watt, a former North Carolina congressman who was appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate. Watt had asked DeMarco to ...
