Five Crypto Cases That Could Shape Fed Powers

The SEC and CFTC have stepped up their virtual currency enforcement game over the past year. Flush with additional funds thanks to a new fiscal 2019 budget, the agencies are expected to push forward on a number of open cases and launch new ones that will set the boundaries of their enforcement authority.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has already reached at least four settlements with companies that failed to register their initial coin offerings as securities. A Feb. 20 no-fine settlement with Gladius Network LLC, a cybersecurity firm, is the latest that adds to those ranks.
