FBI Seeks Crypto Informants Harmed by Bitconnect Collapse

The FBI’s Cleveland office is asking victims of defunct cryptocurrency exchange Bitconnect, an alleged global Ponzi scheme, to come forward.

In a Feb. 20 announcement, the FBI said its seeking information for an investigation into a cryptocurrency investment program that once claimed a market cap of $2.5 billion.

The announcement is the first time the FBI has confirmed its investigation into Bitconnect, Special Agent Vicki Anderson told Bloomberg Law.

The Cleveland field office is launching the request for information because an investor and potential victim in the region first notified the FBI of the Bitconnect collapse, Anderson said.
