The Department of Housing and Urban Development is improperly withholding grants meant for private enforcement of fair housing laws, advocacy groups claimed in a new proposed class action.
HUD in recent months stopped funding multiyear grants under the Fair Housing Initiatives Program, putting private investigations and lawsuits over alleged housing discrimination at risk, the National Fair Housing Alliance and the Tennessee Fair Housing Council said in a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
